Hello Customer!

Thinking about my customer, how they would spend, and how often they would shop is an eye-opener on how I spend and shop so I related my customer to my-self but, then I realized my customer would be broke! but how I spend has nothing to do with today’s blog As I revised to a smarter shopper. Knowing who your customer is and how they are and what they do the little details of where my customer works, goes out or relaxes really helps with the line coming together. While narrowing down my customer helps to narrow down the fabrics, colors and style of the customer. Analyzing who my customer is has kind of been and alter ego for me if that makes sense.

Fabrics, Fabrics, Fabrics

The most fun I have had with this project is coming up with fabrics. Choosing the fabrics have really transformed my line to something inspiring for me. What I started with is not going to be what I end with, which I think is cool because I am being lead in so many different directions to where I am getting new ideas for the line and pairing colors with fabrics, and in the whole learning process is really fun. Paring fabrics that would go with my customers price range, looking at fabrics to see how they would be washed and making sure my customer doesn’t go to the dry-cleaners every week. I will say that sometimes my ideas get a little crazy and don’t stay on track but thank god for my help to help me stay on track. I would have to say the stress level for the project has gone down because the fabrics have been making it soo much fun.

Forgot To Mention

As I procrastinate to put this project together, I have failed to mention a few things. First the name of my line is no evidence for the reason, my customer shows no evidence of going out the night before, having a bad day, or even a heart break. She keeps her composure, posture and mind straight, no one can break her, only she can. The idea came from overly watching the Devil Wears Prada and seeing how Miranda Priestly shows no evidence of her divorce, not spending any time with her two daughters or showing any emotion that she just back stabbed her dear friend over her career. To most people it is understandable and necessary, in fact most people would have done the same thing for the very reason…their career.

One more thing I forgot to mention is why my blogs are starting so late when the project is due in fifteen days from today. My reason not an excuse, recently I had gotten sick while staying home I had some time to catch up on my TV shows, one of the shows I like to watch is The City for those of you who don’t know what the show is about, The City takes place in N.Y. a girl named Whitney, 23 lives in the big apple soaking up life at her first job with Diana Von Furenstenberg! (one of my inspiration) and just leaving the city life. Well Whitney’s life got me, and I felt discouraged thinking that I was to far behind to make my imprint in the fashion industry, so I stopped going to class stopped thinking about my project just stopped everything. Well one day I was having lunch with my friend and she basically told me to remind my-self why I am doing this? Where do I want to be in 6 years? and it helped extremely I realized that I may not be as far as Whitney is, but there is a spot waiting for me in the fashion industry, as cliche as this is going to sound, if I work hard I can get to become my dream. And now I must procrastinate.

Gathering my imagination

As I get ready for the day,as I am at work, school or doing anything I am always thinking about my line. I think what kind of customer I want to buy my product, how I want my customer to look, how old is my customer? Just gathering and creating every detail I could come up with. My customer is a female who has landed her first career job, still young and lovely. My customer enjoys the city life and the night life but at the same time knows when to call it a night. Never lets her guard down at work or out of work, will lower it when her heads tells her it’s ok, and of course follows her head and leads her heart. When I gathered that much I think about her type of style, what type of cocktail parties she attends, and clubs, then create the designs and fabrics which for me has come very simple and just flow with the inspiration. This week has been a good one, realizing that you are aiming in the right direction is sooo relaxing.

And Im Lost!

Being told to create a line in 3 months is exciting for most, but for my-self I was already lost just thinking about it. Starting this project was terrible, because im not aiming to be a designer, I want to be a merchandiser, a buyer for a major department store or a huge designer. But breaking into this industry I have come to understand that I need to know ALL aspects of a designer especially if I want to work for one.

Not taking any illustration classes and being asked to draw 12 sketches can either be discouraging or encouraging, call me a negative nancy but, it was discouraging for me especially when you are addicted to reality television and you see these girls already in the industry meeting their idols, making deals with major designers and in your head that is still all a dream, but when you have real friends around you and an incredible teacher to pick you up and at the same time tell you that you are going to be one of those people you is going to work 10 times harder that is encouraging beyond belief.
